The local police department did not announce the cause of his death, but the local fishermen told the New Hampshire Union Leader that he might have suffered from decompression sickness, which is popularly known as “the bends.”
According to EMedicineHealth.com, ‘the bends’ is linked with deep sea diving. It results from the formation of bubbles of gas that occur with changes in pressure during scuba diving.
As a result, when a diver uses nitrogen or gas in their air tank, the pressure increases as the diver goes down the sea due to the weight of water above.
The gas dissolves in the tissues of the body, and the more time the diver remains under the water, the more nitrogen dissolves in their body. The nitrogen quantity blocks the flow of blood, and this distracts blood vessels and nerves by shredding them. This, in turn, is what causes the death of the diver.
The symptoms of this condition include tiredness, rashes, itchiness, pulmonary or long compression sickness, Neurological Decompression Sickness, and swollen lymph glands.
The fishermen understood better their way of life, and this could have led them to that conclusion on Nicholas ‘Duffy’ Fudge’s death. Sad!
