He was born to mother, Sheila Maynard, a social worker and father, Nicholas Platt a career diplomat. His father served as an ambassador to Pakistan, Zambia, Philippines, and many other countries. This made Oliver move to several countries at a young age. He has an older brother, Adam Platt and a younger one called Nicholas Platt Jr. The family only stayed in Canada for three months after Oliver was born and moved back to the USA.

Oliver Platt’s family moved back to the USA, and his father worked within the country’s foreign office for the next three years. After the third year, he was deployed to Taiwan for a short stint and then again to China for a long stay. It’s surprising how Oliver went to over ten different schools in his schooling life. It was a very difficult part of his life, but it came with immense exposure. The family never lost touch of their American roots as they kept going back to attend sporting events.
Oliver Platt managed to clear his tenth grade in Colorado Rock Mountain boarding school. After his University days, Oliver started hustling in the theatres of Boston and Massachusetts trying to get some acting roles. Oliver Platt says this was one of his best training grounds as he worked with such names as Shakespeare and Company in Massachusetts, which toured schools. He got to meet his agent while working at the Manhattan Punchline Theatre. Bill Murray recommended him to Director Jonathan Demme who featured Oliver in “Married to the Mob” in 1988. Oliver says this was his breakthrough moment.
From then on Oliver has featured in about sixty movies as a key actor.
