LZ Granderson is an American commentator and journalist working for CNN and ESPN. He writes one column for CNN every week. LZ Granderson was born Elzie Lee Granderson on March 11, 1972. He is 45 years old. He was raised in Detroit, Michigan. As he grew up, he developed a passion for National Hockey League and ice hockey.

LZ attended Western Michigan University based in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Before working for ESPN, he was a columnist and sportswriter for The Grand Rapids Press and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution respectively. He now writes one weekly article for CNN.com and two articles for Page 2.

Granderson has won the award for online journalism titled Gay and Lesbian Alliance against Defamation. This was in the year 2009. He got a nomination for the same award in 2010. He is also the winner of National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association in 2008 and 2010.

In 2011, his article “Parents, don’t dress your girls like tramps” was the fourth most shared article on Facebook. It also appeared on CNN’s website.  Another column “Permissive parents: Curb your brats,” was number 28 on Facebook’s top 40.
